TASTIVA / CODE TYPING LAB

Code typing test: practice the symbols developers actually use

Typing source code involves more than letters. Curly braces, quotes, operators, digits and underscores demand precise finger movement. Typlora’s Code Typing Lab provides separate JavaScript, Python, C and SQL practice so you can measure your progress without installing software or signing up.

Four languages, different typing patterns

The examples are original practice snippets written for Typlora. They are not scraped from repositories, and they are not meant to compile as a complete program. Each language has a distinct collection of short, recognizable operations.

How WPM works for code

Net WPM on Typlora uses correctly positioned characters divided by five and by elapsed minutes. Punctuation counts as characters, including {, _ and ;. This is a common typing-test convention, not a measurement of meaningful code tokens or statements.

Expect code tests to behave differently from natural-language typing. A lower WPM can simply reflect the symbol-heavy prompt. The accuracy metric includes mistaken input attempts even when you correct them using Backspace.

A practical five-minute routine

  1. Choose a language you use frequently, then start a 60-second test.
  2. Notice where you hesitate: quotes, braces, semicolons, underscores or comparison operators.
  3. Repeat two tests in the same language, prioritizing accuracy over speed.
  4. Switch to another language once, then return to the first for a like-for-like comparison.
  5. To practice a tutorial you wrote yourself, open Custom text and select a local .txt file.

Privacy and separate personal bests

All generated typing prompts are assembled in your browser. Completed tests save aggregate WPM, accuracy, duration and language, rather than the actual typed passage. C scores are not compared against Python scores. Legacy “Code” results from before Typlora are treated as JavaScript because the previous version offered only JavaScript snippets.

You can also load personal text from a .txt file (up to 64 KB and 15,000 characters). That file is read locally, never transmitted by this feature. Export CSV for analysis or JSON backup to move the statistics between browsers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Typlora run or validate my code?

No. This is a typing exercise, not a compiler, linter or programming assessment.

Why not compare C and SQL records?

Symbols and typical statement structures differ, making mixed personal bests less meaningful.

Can I train with my own source code?

Yes. Copy text into the Custom text dialog or import a small plain-text .txt file. The content remains in your browser session.
